About Our Pastor
Rev. Dr. John Barner
Pastor John Barner came to Central Congregational Church in October 2014. He considers it a privledge to serve as Pastor in this Church which was started in 1837, a long line of Pastors have served this congregational for almost 180 years. Pastor John loves to preach and teach, but likes to get to know individuals and families on an informal basis.
Before coming to Central, he had served in Colorado as a Chaplain and Pastoral Counselor at Focus on the Family. Previously, he was Pastor of the East Kingston and Fremont United Methodist churches, while living for 9 years in East Hampstead. He has been Pastor of churches in Cogan Station, PA, Readville, MA, and was Associate Pastor in Amesbury and Westport, MA. He has been a Counselor and Chaplain at a Drug Rehabilitation Center in Allenwood, PA. Pastor John graduated from Lancaster Bible College in PA, he did his Master of Divinity work at Gordon-Conwell Seminary in Hamilton, MA, as well as, completing a Doctor of Ministry program at Eastern Baptist Seminary in PA.
John and his wife, Joanne, have been married for close to 35 years, they have three adult daughters, a son in law, and three granddaughters. John grew up in Central Pennsylvania, while Joanne grew up in Newton, MA. She is an educator, specializing in helping students with dyslexia. They enjoy entertaining in their home and spending time with their family and friends. Pastor John enjoys watching various sports, gardening and home repairs.
